Herman Hollerith is the Father of modern machine data processing. He establishes a company that would ultimately become IBM (International Business Machines Corporation). Gutenberg’s printing press was considered a historychanging invention, making books widely access ible and ushering in an “ information revolution.” Punched card tabulating machine - Herman Hollerith designs a punch card system to calculate the 1880 census. None of these features existed in the European technique used up to that time for stamping leers on various surfaces or in woodblock printing. Elements of his invention are thought to have included a metal alloy that could melt readily and cool quickly to form durable reusable type, an oilbased ink that could be made suciently thick to adhere well to metal type and transfer well to vel lum or paper, and a new press, likely adapted from those used in producing wine, oil, or paper, for applying rm even pressure to printing surfaces. The innovation that Johannes Gutenberg is said to have created was small metal pieces with raised backwards leers, arranged in a frame, coated with ink, and pressed to a piece of paper, which allowed books to be printed more quickly.
This invention was a result of nding a way to improve the manual, tedious and slow printing methods.
